A Simple Poet on the Simple Life

It’s okay to believe, good friends,

If you know not to trust

The ones who dare not make amends

Because they’ve made a bust.

Good friends, it’s all right to believe

The truth our Lord has said,

Which isn’t, “Blest are the naive

For they may wind up dead.”

Yes, blessed are the pure, for they

Shall see what Radiance lit them –

Not, blessed are the dopes that

They do not know what hit them.

So friends, until we have departed

This vale where eyes are blinded,

For god’s sake do keep simple-hearted,

Just don’t stay simple-minded.
