1956: Myra Whitson speaks to school board on integration
Mrs Rogers, members of the Houston Board of Education, ladies and gentlemen; If any of you were standing here in my shoes at this moment, I feel sure your thrill would be the same as mine; I refer to the honor bestowed on me by the Houston Friends’ Meeting - Quakers - in asking me to present to you some idea of our deep convictions and concerns on the vital problem of the integration of Houston public Schools?
1956: Fiery Cross is Planted in Local Yard
A 6-foot flaming cross was planted in the front yard of the Walter W. Whitson home in 1956.
1954: How Live Oak Friends Meeting Came into Being
LOFM grew out of a longing in the hearts of scattered Friends in the Houston area to find those of like mind and spirit with whom they could share in unprogrammed worship.
